Trent Cole is hot. And it's at exactly the right time for the Eagles' defense.
On Arizona's third play from scrimmage, Cole blew past Cardinals' left tackle Bradley Sowell and forced a Carson Palmer fumble and bounced into the possession of defensive lineman Bennie Logan, and the Eagles were in business early on Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field.
Four plays later, quarterback Nick Foles completed the 25-yard drive with a touchdown pass to tight end Zach Ertz and the Eagles led 7-0 in the first quarter.
Cole has four sacks in his last four games.
The Eagles offense made quick work after the defensive takeaway. On first and 10, Foles completed a pass to tight end Brent Celek for 3 yards. On second and 7, Foles threw incomplete for Celek and then on third and 7 Foles completed a pass to Celek for 16 yards to the 4-yard line, a play on which Celek carried the defense 6 yards to the 4-yard line.
Philadelphia's defense came right back with a takeaway on Arizona's second possession when safety Nate Allen, playing deep in coverage, came over the top to pick off a pass intended for wide receiver Michael Floyd and returned it to the Arizona 48-yard line.
