Gameday Roster Moves: Eagles sign QB Ian Book, activate DE Bryce Huff

The Eagles announced a series of gameday roster moves ahead of Sunday's 1 PM kickoff against the Dallas Cowboys at Lincoln Financial Field:

Signed QB Ian Book to the active roster

Book was signed to the practice squad on Thursday.

The Eagles now have Book, Jalen Hurts, Kenny Pickett, and Tanner McKee on the active roster. Hurts is out for Sunday's game due to a concussion.

A fourth-round pick of the New Orleans Saints in 2021, Book (6-foot, 206 pounds) was claimed off waivers by the Eagles at the end of the 2022 preseason and spent the entire season on the active roster. He dressed for two games, but did not play.

"Highly productive college career," Head Coach Nick Sirianni said of Book on Thursday. "We had an opportunity to get him after he had played a little in New Orleans. Really enjoyed our time with him when he was here. Had some high hopes for him."

Book wears No. 13.

Activated DE Bryce Huff from Injured Reserve

The Eagles opened Huff's 21-day practice window on December 18 after he spent four weeks on Injured Reserve following a wrist procedure.

In 10 games (five starts), Huff has 10 tackles, 2.5 sacks, four QB hits, three tackles for loss, and a forced fumble.

Huff adds to a rotation that features Josh Sweat, Nolan Smith, and rookie Jalyx Hunt.

The Eagles rank first in yards allowed (281.7), second in passing yards allowed (178.8), and fifth in points allowed (18.9) this season.

Elevated RB Tyrion Davis-Price and LB Dallas Gant from the practice squad for Sunday's game

Davis Price (6-1, 219 pounds) is in position to make his Eagles debut with Will Shipley (concussion) out for Sunday's game.

A former third-round pick of the 49ers out of LSU in 2022, Davis-Price has played in seven career games for San Francisco over his two seasons with the team, gaining 120 yards on 40 carries. Davis-Price was on the practice squad during San Francisco's run to the Super Bowl last season.

Davis-Price was signed by the Eagles to a reserve/future deal in February and spent the entire offseason with the team, gaining 118 yards on 22 carries (5.4 yards per carry) in the preseason. He was released during the final roster cutdown, but immediately brought back to the practice squad.

Davis-Price wears No. 35.

Dallas Gant, meanwhile. is in position to make his NFL debut – against Dallas.

A rookie free agent signing of the Vikings following the 2024 NFL Draft, Gant (6-2, 224 pounds) was college teammates with cornerback Quinyon Mitchell at Toledo.

The Toledo, Ohio native wears No. 52. Linebacker Nakobe Dean is doubtful with an abdomen injury for Sunday.

Gant originally started the regular season on Minnesota's practice squad, but joined the Eagles' practice squad on November 4 after being waived.

Gant was a first-team All-MAC selection with 117 tackles, nine for loss, one sack, three pass deflections, one interception, and one forced fumble last season for the Rockets. He spent his first three college seasons at Ohio State.

Placed WR Britain Covey on Injured Reserve

Covey suffered a neck injury in the December 1 win over the Baltimore Ravens. He's practiced in the weeks since, but has been unable to play on gameday.

The team's primary punt returner, Covey has returned six punts for 46 yards this season. He's also caught a career-high seven passes for 34 yards. He led the NFL with 417 punt return yards in 2023 and is second in the league since 2022 with 771 punt return yards. No NFL player has more punt returns of 15-plus yards (20) in that same time span as Covey.

Cooper DeJean has taken over punt return duties in Covey's absence.

Covey missed seven games earlier this year due to a shoulder injury.

Waived DE Charles Harris

Claimed off waivers by the Eagles on November 26, Harris provided veteran depth while Huff was on Injured Reserve.

In three games, Harris played 11 snaps on defense.

Originally a first-round pick of the Dolphins in 2017, Harris played for the Panthers, starting six of nine games this season in Carolina before being waived.
