CHICAGO -- Joselio Hanson had a good idea prior to today that he would start on Sunday against the Bears. Hanson replaces Asante Samuel in the starting lineup as Samuel is sidelined with a knee sprain. The Eagles announced on Saturday that Samuel was downgraded from questionable to out and would not make the team flight to Chicago.
Hanson started for Samuel in the Week 5 win in San Francisco as Samuel due to a concussion. Sunday will in fact mark the 16th start of Hanson's career. He understands the challenge of replacing Samuel and his league-best seven interceptions.
"It's going to be a tough challenge for us, but I think we're up for it," Hanson said. "I just want to get to 8-3. That's all that matters."
Defensive end Trent Cole admitted that not having Samuel is "a big loss" for the defense. Cole has faith in Hanson to step up and get the job done, but Cole knows that he can help make Hanson's task easier.
"We have to work a little bit harder up front on the D-line," Cole said. "It starts from the front line and we'll work our way from there." Photo Gallery : PHI vs. CHI 11-27-10
