Harris Already In Rare Company

Free safety Macho Harris is going to be the first rookie to start at safety in the team's opening game of the season since Wes Hopkins. A second-round pick, Hopkins started for the Eagles against the San Francisco 49ers in 1983. Harris is the first defensive rookie to start in the season opener since defensive tackle Corey Simon in 2000. Simon was the sixth-overall pick in that draft.

Harris is a fifth-round pick out of Virginia Tech. The previous rookie safety to start on opening day, before Hopkins, was Randy Logan in 1973.
