On Monday afternoon at the NovaCare Complex, tight end Harrison Bryant and long snapper Charley Hughlett reunited as they officially signed their one-year contracts with the Eagles.
Hughlett spent the last 10 seasons with the Browns and was tied as the longest-tenured member of the Browns, playing in 152 career games, which is 15th-most in franchise history.
Bryant was chosen by the Browns in the fourth round of the 2020 draft, where he spent four seasons before joining the Raiders for the 2024 season.
"Obviously, he's (Hughlett) a great leader. All four years I was with him in Cleveland he was a captain. In the locker room, he takes command of everybody, and he's been around the block. I think he's a great leader, great teammate, but he's also a great player. It speaks volumes to be in the league 10+ years as a long snapper, so, I'm excited to be back on the team with him and just be able to spend time with him," Bryant said of Hughlett.
Hughlett will get to work with some of the league's very best in kicker Jake Elliott and punter Braden Mann, who will be holding the newest addition's snaps.
In 2024, he spent most of the year on Injured Reserve after appearing in five games to start the season.
Hughlett on his process for getting to know his new special teams unit: "Just come in and really get to work and start building that chemistry pretty quickly. Try to hang out off the field and get to know these guys as people as well. Excited to start that process."
Meanwhile, Bryant joins a room that consists of Dallas Goedert, Grant Calcaterra, E.J. Jenkins, Cameron Latu, and Nick Muse
During his five-year career, Bryant has accumulated 98 catches for 877 yards and 10 touchdowns.
"I think it's a great opportunity with a great tight end room. Obviously, what's better than signing with the defending Super Bowl Champions?" Bryant said.
"I feel like one of the better aspects of my game is just being a complete tight end. Being able to lineup in-line, in the backfield, out wide, I think is something that I obviously can improve on, but it's something that I pride myself with – being a complete guy that can be utilized around the field. I think it's something I bring value to a team with but is also something I'm looking to improve on."
As he enters Year 11 in the league, Hughlett will have the opportunity to work with Special Teams Coordinator Michael Clay, who will be entering his fifth season with the Eagles in his current role.
"I met him (Clay) one time at a joint practice, which is kind of how I've met a lot of people here. He seems like a super great guy. Very easy to get to know, seems like he's very straightforward, and I think I'm pretty familiar with the systems and stuff like that. It doesn't seem too terribly different from what I'm used to, so I'm excited to get to work with him. He seems like he's going to be a great person to work with," Hughlett said. – Written by Liam Wichser
