As expected, wide receiver Jeremy Maclin did not practice for the Eagles Wednesday as he recovers from a hip pointer and a hip flexor strain. Three players were listed as limited participants for the Eagles, though both safety Kurt Coleman (facial lacerations) and cornerback Curtis Marsh (hamstring) are expected to play Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens. Wide receiver Riley Cooper, meanwhile, practiced for the first time since suffering a fractured collarbone in Training Camp, though he has already been ruled out for Sunday's game by head coach Andy Reid. Still, it was a step in the right direction for the third year receiver.
"It felt good," Cooper said. "I obviously didn't do everything, but it felt good to get the pads back on and start running around. You feel like you're actually part of the team, so it felt good. It was fun.
"(Getting injured) sucked. It was frustrating, but that's football, it happened. The good thing is I'm way ahead of schedule, I feel really good and I finally got to go today and practice with my boys and my teammates, so I feel good."
If Maclin is unable to play against the Ravens, his responsibilities will fall on a mixture of three players: Jason Avant, Damaris Johnson and Mardy Gilyard.
"We're not really sure about Maclin's situation," said Avant. "I know that he's going to do everything in his power to give it his best effort to get out there. I'm just focusing on the Ravens and doing my job. Whatever they ask me to do, I'll be prepared for. Me and Damaris and Mardy and whoever else is out there will give it our best effort to play in his stead if that's the case, but I doubt it."
For Johnson, a significant role in the offense would mean a pretty impressive rise for an undrafted rookie.
"I'm preparing like I do every week, just going in and not knowing when my number's going to be called," said Johnson, who had one catch for 10 yards in his debut last week. My goal is "just to give the team another option and to be there just to make sure we don't miss a beat and just keep practicing hard and take advantage of my opportunities."
As for the Ravens, four players did not practice for Baltimore, including three key contributors. Center Matt Birk (thigh), linebacker Paul Kruger (back), defensive end Pernell McPhee (knee) and offensive lineman Jah Reid were all sidelined, while perennial Pro Bowler Ed Reed was limited with a thigh injury. Birk and Kruger are starters for the Ravens, while McPhee played on 68 percent of the Ravens' defensive snaps in the season opener, despite being listed as a second-team defensive end.
