The 5-2 Eagles hosted the Jaguars in their Kelly Green game at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday afternoon.
After leading 22-0, the Eagles fought off the Jaguars' second-half comeback bid to pick up a 28-23 victory and move to 6-2 on the year.
Saquon Barkley had another big day in his first time rocking Kelly Green, rushing for 159 yards and 2 touchdowns (one rushing, one receiving)
"My team had my back, the defense had my back, and we played together. We got the win and that's all that matters," Barkley said in the locker room after the game.
Here's how it happened:
First Quarter
- The Eagles received the ball first, getting it up to their own 49-yard line and almost going for it on 4th-and-1, but a false start on Jack Stoll forced a punt.
- FUMBLE! Sydney Brown flew down the field to hit Austin Trammell and jar the ball loose. Kelee Ringo jumped right on it, giving the Eagles the ball at the Jaguars' 20 yard-line.
- "It was a cool moment, just doing my job, taking advantage of the opportunities I have," Brown said. "Obviously, thankful for it, and I'm just excited for what the future holds."
- TOUCHDOWN! Hurts found Saquon Barkley on a wheel route that went for 20 yards as Barkley made a spectacular over-the-shoulder grab while keeping both feet in bounds. (Eagles 7 – Jaguars 0)
- "It's something I've been working really hard at. When I trust my hands and I stay locked in, good things happen," Barkley said.
- SACK! Josh Sweat corralled and brought down Trevor Lawrence for a loss of 7 yards to bring up fourth down for the Jaguars on their opening drive. Milton Williams was in the backfield creating pressure on Lawrence as well.
- "We did our thing. We didn't get as many sacks as we thought we could have, hats off to them, but it was fun though," Sweat said.
- With 1:55 remaining in the quarter, Hurts stepped up and made a beautiful throw to A.J. Brown for a gain of 20 yards on 3rd-and-3.
- The Eagles closed out the first quarter holding the Jaguars to 18 yards of total offense. (Eagles 7 – Jaguars 0)
Second Quarter
- Barkley left the Eagles crowd in a frenzy as he made one of the most impressive 14-yard gains ever. Barkley caught a short pass from Hurts, did a spin move around one defender after breaking a tackle, and then did a backwards hurdle over the next Jaguars defender.
- "Have to give credit to God there, I'm not going to lie," Barkley said. "I feel like God gave me the ability to play this position and gave me some instincts. Sometimes you just have to let go, let God, and let your instincts take over."
- FIELD GOAL! Jake Elliott knocked in a 43-yard field goal to extend the Eagles' lead to 10 after Hurts was sacked by Jordan Jefferson for a loss of 9 yards on 3rd-and-6. (Eagles 10 – Jaguars 0)
- TURNOVER ON DOWNS! The Jaguars went for it on 4th-and-1 from their own 39-yard line, with Cooper DeJean getting around a designed pick play to force an incompletion intended for Evan Engram. DeJean got from the line to the outside, getting by the pick in time to force the tough incompletion and give the Eagles the ball back with 7:26 left in the half.
- The Eagles turned it over on downs themselves after Hurts was unable to connect with Brown on 4th-and-3 from the Jacksonville 22 with 4:49 remaining.
- INTERCEPTION! Nakobe Dean provided the hit on Travis Etienne to jar the ball loose and Zack Baun made a diving catch before the ball hit the ground to give the Eagles the ball at the Jaguars' 40 with 1:38 left in the half.
- "I was playing the flat, the running back kind of motioned out. I knew what his route was and I think he thought that I was playing him in man, but we were in a zone," Baun said. "Nakobe had a great break on the ball, threw it behind him because Nakobe was there, he stuck him, the ball popped out, and I just hustled to the ball after that."
- Rookie wide receiver Johnny Wilson nearly had his first career touchdown catch after Hurts found him in the end zone, but he was called for pass interference on the play.
- TOUCHDOWN! Barkley got around the right side for a 19-yard rushing touchdown, his second score of the day, to extend the lead with 22 seconds remaining in the half. After an offsides by the Jaguars on the extra point, the Eagles went for two from the 1-yard line, but Hurts was stopped short on the Brotherly Shove attempt. (Eagles 16 – Jaguars 0)
- "We have so many talented players on this team, but that's what you want, to be a lead back. You want the defense to key in on you. You want people in the box. You want to be downhill mentality, knowing that when you break through, there's bigger plays out there and you're also opening stuff up for your teammates too," Barkley said.
Third Quarter
- A.J. Brown was listed as questionable to return with a knee injury and was not out there to begin the second half. Brown was later ruled OUT for the game.
- Hurts found Jahan Dotson downfield for a spectacular juggling catch for a gain of 36 yards. Dotson jumped up and juggled the ball over the defender before bringing it in for an insane catch.
- "Ball was in the air, go get it and make a play," Dotson said. "People tend to forget that I was first-round pick. I can make plays. Just because I'm the third receiver in this offense, I don't get a lot of opportunities, so I got to make the most of them when they come. But I have the ultimate confidence myself if the ball's in there that I'm going to come down with it, I'm going to make a play."
- TOUCHDOWN! Hurts ran up the right side for an 18-yard touchdown to extend the lead. Fred Johnson was blocked below the knees during the play, resulting in another penalty. The Eagles failed the two-point attempt after Hurts was stopped short on the Brotherly Shove attempt. (Eagles 22 – Jaguars 0)
- Ben VanSumeren was ruled out with 5:53 remaining in the quarter after being evaluated for a concussion.
- With 5:26 remaining in the quarter, the Jaguars scored their first points of the day, as Lawrence was shoved into the end zone for a 1-yard touchdown run. Lawrence found Brian Thomas Jr. for the successful two-point conversion to make it a two-score game. (Eagles 22 – Jaguars 8)
- The Jaguars were quick to make it a one-score game after Barkley fumbled the ball at the Eagles' 33 and Travon Walker recovered it and ran it back 35 yards for a touchdown. Lawrence found Engram for another successful two-point conversion to make it a 6-point game with 5:12 remaining in the third. (Eagles 22 – Jaguars 16)
- The Eagles were stopped on 4th down once again, as Hurts had to throw it away on 4th-and-1 after a play-action play was covered well by the Jaguars. Jacksonville would take over at their own 25 with 1:15 left in the quarter.
Fourth Quarter
- Hurts found Smith downfield for a 46-yard completion to set the Eagles up at the Jaguars' 13-yard line with 10:10 to go in the game.
- TOUCHDOWN! Hurts found Smith once again for another insane catch in this game. Smith brought in the touchdown pass with one hand and was able to get both feet down for an incredible score. The play went for 25 yards and made it a two-score game with 7:43 remaining. (Eagles 28 – Jaguars 16)
- SACK! Sweat got in the backfield once again to bring down Lawrence for a loss of 7 yards on 3rd-and-6. The Jaguars went for it and converted on 4th-and-13 after Lawrence found Thomas Jr. for a gain of 16.
- Lawrence rushed up the middle for a 4-yard touchdown to bring the Jaguars within one score with 4:04 remaining in the game. The Jaguars ran nine plays for 70 yards in 3:39 on game time. (Eagles 28 – Jaguars 23)
- Elliott missed a 57-yard field goal attempt with 2:11 remaining in the game to give the Jaguars the ball as their own 39.
- Avonte Maddox was called for pass interference on 3rd-and-10, moving the Jaguars up 18 yards to the Eagles' 35 with 2:00 remaining.
- INTERCEPTION! Dean picked off Lawrence in the back left corner of the end zone on a pass intended for D'Ernest Johnson with 1:38 remaining to seal the deal for the Eagles. (Eagles 28 – Jaguars 23)
- "It's a play that I knew they had. They have good backs that can run good routes, I know Saquon scored on it earlier in the game," Dean said. "I was kind of waiting on it. It was the opportune time. It was high red zone. They knew what we were in, they knew 3x1 when we were at the end of the game, so they got the read right and I just had to make a play," Dean said.
