Of the eight players on the Eagles' practice squad, only one didn't spend preseason with the Eagles. The personnel department scoured the league's rosters and decided that the talent at the bottom of their roster was better than most everywhere else, but there was one player worth scooping up from elsewhere - linebacker Jeremy Leman.
A rookie out of Illinois, Leman, who goes simply by J., spent training camp with the Carolina Panthers, which gives him an interesting perspective heading into Sunday's season opener.
"It is a whirlwind," Leman said of the timeline of events that led him to the Eagles. "That's just the way it is, especially for a young guy like me, and I'm just happy to have the opportunity to come into a place like Philadelphia."
How would he introduce himself to the Eagles' faithful?
"I'm high-intensity, give it everything I got, maximum effort," Leman said. "I try to be fun to watch."
Leman also offered a brief scouting report on what his new team can expect from his former team.
The Panthers "are a pretty good team," Leman said. "Steve Smith's a good player, so watch out for him."
Leman had the opportunity as a middle linebacker to watch the Panthers' Jon Beason up close. Beason has been hampered by a knee injury this summer, but he is expected to play.
"They're an athletic group," Leman said of the Panther's linebackers. "They make a lot of plays. Beason's the leader of that group and I'm sure he'll be ready to play."
