Lurie: Reid Will Return In 2012

Chairman/CEO Jeffrey Lurie announced on Tuesday afternoon that Andy Reid will return for a 14th season as head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles.

"If our focus is on trying to win a championship next year, the best coach for that is Andy," Lurie said.

The winningest head coach in franchise history, Reid finished the 2011 season with 136 career victories which is tied for 22nd on the NFL's all-time list (including playoffs). The Eagles have been to the playoffs nine times in Reid's 13 seasons as head coach. The Eagles under Reid have been to five NFC Championship games, won six NFC East division titles and appeared in Super Bowl XXXIX. Reid was signed to a contract extension in 2009 that runs through the 2013 season.

Reid was hired by the Eagles on January 11, 1999 and is the longest-tenured head coach in the NFL. Only three head coaches in the other three major professional sports leagues have been at the helm of their respective teams longer than Reid.
