Maclin Looks To Seize Starting Spot

Players talk all the time about taking advantage of opportunities.

DeSean Jackson did it last year when injuries to Reggie Brown and Kevin Curtis afforded the rookie wideout a chance to showcase his wares. The former second-round pick did just that as he went on to establish franchise records while starting 15 of 16 games.

First-round pick Jeremy Maclin has followed a similar path as Curtis battles a nagging knee injury. With Curtis sidelined for the Chiefs game, Maclin stepped in and caught four passes for 33 yards. And he's ready for more.

"I don't plan on letting up," Maclin said. "Right now I'm seizing the opportunity. I'm going to make the best of the opportunity and hopefully if things continue that will be the permanent spot."

While Curtis figures to be back in the lineup Sunday, head coach Andy Reid indicated this week that both players will man the "X" receiver spot (split end).

"He and [WR] Jeremy [Maclin] will be in there playing and cover that position," Reid said.

Jackson and Reggie Brown are among the few rookie receivers to have made an impact in their inaugural campaigns. Maclin hopes to be next.

"I guess we'll see. I'm excited to find out," Maclin said. "All you have to do is go out there and do the things they ask you to do and make the play when the ball comes your way. That's pretty much all you can do and that's all they can ask you to do."

Much like Jackson, Maclin's role will undoubtedly continue to evolve.

At this point, offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg likes what he has seen from the rookie out of Missouri.

"Jeremy did a good job (against the Chiefs)," Mornhinweg said. "He played well, so we'll keep him going."
