For the first time in nearly 15 years, the Eagles hold a top-five pick in the NFL Draft. With uncertainty on the Eagles' roster and no real consensus as to where this year's top prospects will land, who the Eagles will draft with the No. 4 overall pick is very much up in the air.
In a conference call with reporters, NFL Network analyst and Philadelphia native Mike Mayock broke down the Eagles' needs and how head coach Chip Kelly and his staff can bolster the team's roster. Let's get his take on the offense ...
Intrigue remains at the most important position – quarterback. The Eagles re-signed Michael Vick and added Dennis Dixon last week, but these two will battle Nick Foles in Training Camp for the right to become the starter this season. Because of this, Mayock doesn't see the Eagles drafting a quarterback in the top 10 this year.
"I don't see that at all," he said. "They signed Dennis Dixon. They've now got three quarterbacks, and I think Chip Kelly's going to be pretty smart with how he handles that thing. I think it's too early to be taking a quarterback given the fact that they've got three there right now."
The Eagles could also look to bolster their offensive line, a move that Mayock believes could net the Eagles an All-Pro-caliber player.
"My whole premise is less about having to plug a particular position and more about making sure I get an All-Pro if I'm picking in the top 10 ... So you've got to decide with your offensive line how comfortable you are with all those guys coming back from injury, and I think there are some questions there. So you've got to look at the top offensive lineman in this draft. I don't care if it's outside or (Alabama guard) Chance Warmack inside, you better be looking at those two guys."
With the fourth overall pick, the options for the Eagles are seemingly limitless. To improve on the team's performance last season, the Eagles will make sure to bring in a new generation of players who fit Kelly's program and philosophy. That all begins April 25 at Radio City Music Hall when the Eagles select the franchise's next first-round pick.
