Running back LeSean McCoy is playing in a game with the word "Bowl" at the end of it, but it's certainly not the one that he wishes he was playing in.
McCoy was a first-time Pro Bowl selection in 2011 after leading the league in total touchdowns with 20, which also set a franchise record. A first-team All-Pro selection as well, McCoy was fourth in the league in rushing yards with 1,309 and fifth in the league in yards from scrimmage with 1,624.
One of three players representing the Eagles at the Pro Bowl – along with Jason Babin and Jason Peters - this week in Hawaii, McCoy talked with Hall of Fame running back and current NFL Network analyst Marshall Faulk and fellow All-Pro running back Maurice Jones-Drew of the Jaguars about his 2011 campaign and the state of the running back position. For all of McCoy's individual success this season, he wishes that he was playing in next week's Super Bowl instead of the Pro Bowl.
"The biggest thing is the main goal is to get to the Super Bowl," McCoy said reflecting on the just-completed season. "I would trade it all for a Super Bowl."
McCoy and Jones-Drew each shared with one another what they admire about the other player's game.
Jones-Drew raved about McCoy's elusiveness and "the way he can make two, three guys miss without even looking at them." He also praised McCoy for his vision and speed, which are things "you can't coach." He also joked about how McCoy is able to be so good at protecting the football (321 touches - fourth in the NFL - and only one fumble) while holding it so far outside of his body.
McCoy loves Jones-Drew's attitude. Even though Jones-Drew is only listed at 5-7, McCoy said he plays like he's 6-6. McCoy also admired how Jones-Drew can take over a football game and the way he pounds defensive players as he "never lets the first guy take him down."
McCoy and Jones-Drew will battle one another in Sunday's Pro Bowl at 7 PM (EST) on NBC.
