In his first training camp press conference as Eagles defensive coordinator, Sean McDermott focused on the importance of the individual attention coaches can give in these first few days of training camp.
"Any time you get to work one-on-one with the players, the teaching opportunities are magnified," McDermott said.
McDermott said that he is very happy with the quality of depth available on his defensive unit.
"These are young, great character guys here, and all coachable, and that's a great foundation to start from," he said. "We want competition, and I've told the players that. The front office has done a great job of bringing in players to compete, and the best 11 will play.
"There's a laundry list of things we want to improve on this year. For one, we finished 3rd in total defense last year, so until we're number one, that will remain our goal."
McDermott then went on to describe the "nastiness" that he hopes to bring out of the defense.
"That's how this city is, blue collar, and that will be the personality of our defense."
