McNabb's Status Still Up In The Air

Donovan McNabb's status for the upcoming game against the New Orleans Saints is still undecided said head coach Andy Reid. Reid said McNabb will continue to prepare with the intent of playing, but in practice the team will prepare for Kevin Kolb to be the starter.

"(Donovan) is actually making some progress here," Reid said. "It's probably too early to say right now, so we'll see how it does here the next couple days.

"But I want to make this very clear, Kevin Kolb right now is the starting quarterback. If Donovan cannot play this week, Kevin will be the starting quarterback. Michael (Vick), we took off the exempt list, he's able to practice only, so therefore Jeff Garcia becomes the backup. If Donovan's healthy (Garcia)'s the number three, if Donovan's not healthy enough to play (Garcia)'s the number two ... between myself and the coaches, I'm very confident that given the chance (Kolb) will go in there and perform very well."

Reid also addressed the decision to place right tackle Shawn Andrews on season-ending Injured Reserve.

"Shawn had the back pain, it was just hard for him to function so I thought it was best to (put him on IR)," Reid said.

The Eagles also activated Michael Vick from the exempt list, allowing him to practice this week. Reid said Vick will work with the scout team this week.

"I felt that it was important that we could get (Vick) back on the field throwing to receivers and not coaches," Reid said. "He'll have a couple weeks now to ... practice real football instead of drills."

Reid said that he trusts that if McNabb were healthy enough to play against the Saints, he would be able to perform well without having practiced.

"Don's been in this situation before, so I would probably say if he can go he can go," Reid said. "If he were Okayed to play and felt okay, I think he could do that; go out there and play with very little practice and perform."

In other injury news, Todd Herremans is listed as out this week. Quintin Demps is day-to-day with a hamstring strain and Joe Mays is day-to-day with a shoulder sprain, although he is improving. Neithr player will practice today.
