Good morning, Eagles fans! Today the team will participate in a walkthrough before heading to Jacksonville. The second preseason game will take place on Thursday at 7 p.m. against the Jaguars at TIAA Bank Field. Catch all the action from the game beginning with the Kickoff Show presented by Axalta at 6:30 p.m. In this edition of Morning Roundup presented by Microsoft, there is a lot to cover from the last day of Training Camp. Let's get right to the notable stories!
1. Practice Notes: Who unleashed the dogs at Training Camp?
Training Camp as we know it for 2019 has come to a close. Don't shed any tears. There will be joint practices next week with the Baltimore Ravens, but the team starts to shift into regular-season mode with each week closely resembling a game week. Fran Duffy, Ben Fennell, and Chris McPherson recap the doggone action on the field.
Carson Wentz took the field for the first time and looked pretty good, completing each pass in his opening session. First, Wentz hit Alshon Jeffery on a deep out route on the left side, keeping the ball just outside the outstretched arms of Rasul Douglas along the sideline, where only Jeffery could make the catch. A few plays later, the two hooked up again on a deep in-breaking route. It should be noted, however, that Derek Barnett was in the backfield and likely would have come up with a sack on the play. – Fran
2. QB Cody Kessler readies for a big moment at Jaguars
As the second preseason game rapidly approaches, quarterback Cody Kessler is eager to get back on the field to try and earn a spot on this team. He went 3 of 6 in the preseason opener and with the injury to Nate Sudfeld, Kessler is expected to see more reps. Eagles Insider Dave Spadaro spoke with Kessler on the importance of this opportunity and making the most of it. Check out the full story here.
"I understand how all of this works and I'm confident that I'm going to go out there and work within the offense and take what's there," Kessler said. "It's a performance-based league. I'm here to perform. I'm excited to play and put some drives together and put some points on the board."
3. Doug Pederson discusses starters for second preseason game
With the uncertainty of playing time for starters during the preseason, head coach Doug Pederson addresses what his plan is for the upcoming game. Nate Sudfeld saw a lot of action in the game versus the Titans at quarterback, but with his wrist injury the other guys in that room will see more playing time. Read the full story here.
"We're still working through that," Pederson said on who will start on Thursday. "The coordinators have the play-time charts. We'll put that together and discuss that later tonight probably."
4. Eagles bring back DT Aziz Shittu
The Eagles brought back defensive tackle Aziz Shittu on Tuesday, signing him to a contract. To make room on the roster, the Eagles waived safety Blake Countess with an injury settlement. Originally signed by the Eagles as a rookie free agent out of Stanford in 2016, Shittu spent his first season in the league on the team's practice squad. He suffered a season-ending knee injury the following spring.
