Another pick, another bulldog! With the No. 30 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, the Eagles have selected linebacker Nolan Smith.
Here's what you need to know about this 6-foot-2, 238-pound edge rusher before he lands in Philadelphia.
1. 2021 was his year
Smith missed half of the 2022 season due to injury; he suffered a torn pectoral muscle. But in 2021, he was a force for the Bulldogs, compiling a career-high 56 tackles, nine tackles for loss, and three forced fumbles for the National Champions.
Here's a look at his career stats:
Games played: 46
Games started: 23
Solo tackles: 66
Total tackles: 114
Tackles-for-loss: 21
Sack: 11.5
Interceptions: 1
PBU: 3
Blocks: 1
Fumble recoveries: 1
Forced Fumbles: 3
2. The two-time CFP National Champion will be joining a list of former teammates in Philly
Like the Eagles' first pick of the night, Jalen Carter, Smith was college teammates with two of the Eagles' 2022 draft picks – Jordan Davis and Nakobe Dean.
In 2019, he was named the team's Co-Defensive Newcomer of the Year alongside Dean.
3. He is FAST!
At the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine, Smith ran a historically fast 40-yard dash. He ran it in 4.39 seconds, recording the second-quickest time for a defensive lineman/edge rusher in two decades.
His vertical? Also the best among all defensive linemen at 41.5 inches.
