Cooper DeJean and Quinyon Mitchell have been making waves across the NFL with each week that passes by.
Mitchell, the Eagles' 22nd overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, has been a starter since opening day.
DeJean was selected No. 40 overall and has started in five out of the last six games as the nickel cornerback. DeJean has also been returning punts in the absence of Britain Covey, averaging 11.8 yards per return.
Mitchell is currently the only NFL cornerback with 375+ coverage snaps and 0 passing touchdowns allowed this season, according to Pro Football Focus. He has limited opponents to a 51.1 percent completion percentage and a 71.4 passer rating. He ranks second among NFL cornerbacks with a 23.4 percent forced incompletion percentage.
The two have been going through their rookie season relying on each other to navigate having major roles in Year 1.
The two rookies spoke to PhiladelphiaEagles.com about playing as rookies, coming to a new city, what their favorite food is, and more from the NovaCare Complex locker room.
Liam Wichser: Coming from a small town in Iowa (Odebolt), what has it been like adjusting to a big city like Philadelphia?
Cooper DeJean: "Growing up in Iowa was fun, you can pretty much do whatever you want. I grew up in a small town, so you make your own fun. A lot of sports growing up, a lot of traveling to play AAU sports and stuff. It's been a little bit of an adjustment coming to a big city. I've never lived outside of Iowa before. It's been fun and a good little change."
LW: What are your hobbies and what do you do when you're not here playing football?
Quinyon Mitchell: "Probably sleep, that's probably the biggest thing. I play video games and that's about it."
CD: "Big golfer, I like to golf and played a lot this offseason. Play basketball when I can a little bit. Just hanging out with my family though too, I don't do a whole lot outside of football."
LW: What is your favorite food and has it changed since you've been in Philadelphia?
QM: "My favorite meal is probably gator tail, mac and cheese, baked beans, Rotel Dip, and dirty rice."
CD: "Probably a classic steak and potatoes. There's a bunch of good steakhouses here that we don't have in Iowa, so I enjoy those. I like the pizza a lot out here and cheesesteaks."
LW: You mentioned sports were big, when did you first dunk and when did it happen in a game?
CD: "It was summer going into my freshman year of high school. I never dunked in the game until my sophomore year. It was kind of whenever I got a shot at the free lane. I was always trying to dunk as much as I could. That's what I loved about playing basketball, being able to drive down and dunk on somebody."
LW: "You have been known to do your own dance while the defense does a group celebration. What is the reason behind that?
QM: "I've just been practicing my own dance at home. So, whenever I get a chance to pull one out, I'm going to do it no matter what they do."
LW: You guys are both experiencing not only being rookies, but rookies who started early on. How have you two leaned on each other and what is that relationship like?
QM: "We're just piggybacking off each other. Where Coop goes, I go, and where I go, he goes. We're just helping each other out, watching film together and stuff like that. It's been a real help having him along my side."
CD: "We've built a good relationship. We're always meeting with Coach together, studying film together, so it's good to have him. It's good to be able to grow and go through this process with him. We're kind of learning as we're going here, learning something new each week. It's good to have another dude in the room to be able to learn with."
LW: What are your goals for this season?
QM: "The main goal is just to win a Super Bowl. I'm just trying to take everything one day at a time, one game at a time."
CD: My goal is just to really try and make an impact anyway I can, whether it's starting on defense or playing on special teams. I really just want to help the team win. I want to be able to go out and do my job the best of my ability and help our team win."
LW: What's your favorite stadium you have played in outside of Lincoln Financial Field?
QM: "Probably New Orleans Caesars Superdome. Dallas was pretty nice too, but I liked New Orleans better. I was getting blinded in Dallas, but I like the indoor ones."
CD: "I would say AT&T Stadium (Cowboys). It's a pretty big stadium and it's indoors. That, or the Caesars Superdome (Saints). I like the indoor stadiums."
To help the patients at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia get into the Halloween spirit, the Eagles' Rookie Class spent Monday celebrating with the young kids who are unable to trick or treat this year. They played games, decorated masks, and shared plenty of smiles and laughs.
