As the clock ticks closer to the start of training camp, we want you to familiarize yourselves with the key players who will be counted upon to make an impact in the 2010 season. Today, we'll take a look at running back Mike Bell. The Eagles signed the 6-0, 225-pound back as a restricted free agent from the New Orleans Saints after he rushed for 654 yards and four touchdowns last season for the Super Bowl champs.
1. Armed with a Super Bowl ring, Bell is one of four Eagles to have won a championship along with cornerback Asante Samuel, safety Marlin Jackson and cornerback Geoff Pope. Bell said that winning the Super Bowl was his all-time most favorite moment in sports. "With everything that we went through that year, the game really symbolized the season. It was unbelievable, the journey we went through and to come out on top at the end - that was my favorite moment. Nothing could replace it." Maybe nothing except winning one again with the Eagles.
2. Bell amassed a career-high 677 rushing yards and eight touchdowns as a rookie. He was the fifth rookie free agent to gain 500-or-more rushing yards since the inception of the common NFL Draft in 1967. Bell was fourth among rookies in yards that season and it was the sixth-most rushing yards by a rookie in Broncos history. Bell spent his early childhood in Denver and grew up a huge Broncos fan. "When they signed me as an undrafted free agent, it was a dream come true for me."
3. Bell said that the most underrated ability you need to have as a running back is the ability to think on the move. "Running back is such a multi-tasking position. You need to know so much about what you're doing pre-snap in every different situation. Then whether you get the ball, or whether you're blocking, or whether you're running a route, you have to think about everything and be quick while doing it."
