Running back LeSean McCoy leads the NFL with 932 rushing yards through the first 10 weeks of the season. No other player has cracked the 900-yard mark.
McCoy reiterated on Wednesday that his focus is on winning games, not the rushing title. There's more meaning to it when the team wins, he explained.
But the men who block for him are keeping their eye on the rushing leaderboard.
"We're not blind to it," said guard Evan Mathis. "I'd say we're conscious of it, sure."
Mathis' reasoning is that there are very few stats for offensive linemen. That's why he takes pride in McCoy's rushing total.
"I'm the kind of guy who wants to be the best at whatever I'm doing," Mathis said. "There are some things that are measurable like that. It's kind of fun to watch him and if you can control him, control him."
Mathis admitted to looking up at the scoreboard during Sunday's win over Green Bay and seeing that McCoy was third in the league behind Washington's Alfred Morris and Minnesota's Adrian Peterson, who had already played on Thursday night. Following the 27-13 win, Mathis checked in with the All-Pro running back knowing how many yards he needed to reclaim the top spot. McCoy had 155 yards on the ground, his third-highest single-game total of the season.
"OK, we're good," Mathis said.
