On The Cusp Of History

With the 2011 season finale set for this Sunday against the Washington Redskins, here are some team and individual records that could be broken along with some other noteworthy accomplishments to keep an eye on.

Team Records

  • The Eagles need 235 net yards of total offense to set a single-season team record. The Eagles are third in the NFL in offense averaging 399.7 yards per game this season.
  • With their next first down gained, the Eagles will set a single-season team record. The Eagles are fourth in the league averaging 22.1 first downs per game.
  • The Eagles are on pace to become just the third team in NFL history to have five players catch 50-or-more passes in a single season. Jason Avant and LeSean McCoy each need two receptions to join Brent Celek, Jeremy Maclin and DeSean Jackson. The teams to accomplish this feat are the 1980 Browns and the 1994 Patriots.
  • The Eagles lead the league with 49 sacks.

Individual Marks

  • Jason Babin has 18.0 sacks, which is currently the third-most in a single season in franchise history. Clyde Simmons is second with 19 sacks back in 1992. Reggie White stands alone at the top with 21 sacks in 1987.
  • LeSean McCoy's 120 points are the seventh-most in team history and the most by a non-kicker. David Akers dominates the record books in this category with the No. 1 (144 points, 2008) through No. 6 slots (121 points, 2000).
  • McCoy's 20 total touchdowns and 17 rushing touchdowns are already single-season franchise records.
  • McCoy's nine straight games with a touchdown earlier this season set a new franchise record.
  • McCoy's 1,309 rushing yards are fifth in franchise history. Wilbert Montgomery had 1,512 yards in 1979, which is tops. Ricky Watters' 1,411 rushing yards in 1996 is second and Montgomery's 1,402 yards in 1981 are third.
  • McCoy's 1,624 yards from scrimmage are eighth in franchise history. He was seventh all-time with 1,672 scrimmage yards last season. Brian Westbrook had 2,104 yards from scrimmage in 2007 which rank first in Eagles history.
  • Alex Henery has scored 108 points in 2011 which is the second-most by an Eagles rookie behind Paul McFadden's 116 in 1984. For Henery to get into the top 10 list for most points in a single season, he would have to reach 115 which would tie Akers and Gary Anderson.
  • Henery's 88.0 percent success rate on field goal attempts this season is second to Akers' 88.2 percent in 2002.
  • Henery has made 14 consecutive field goal attempts, which currently ranks fifth in team history. First is 17, which Akers did twice (2001, 2009). Fifteen straight would get Henery into a tie for third with Akers, who again did it twice (2004 and 2008).
