The Good: Athletic pass blocking left tackle whose game is on the rise, area blocks with terrific fundamentals, bending his knees and playing with good pad level. Patient in pass protection, keeps his feet moving, and effectively uses his hands. Quickly sets up in pass protection, displays solid footwork sliding out to protect the edge, and stays square. Makes good use of blocking angles, anchors at the point, and seals defenders from the action with good body positioning. Quick in his head picking up stunts or twists and displays the ability to nicely adjust to oncoming blitzes then knock them from their angle of attack.
The Bad: Marginal run blocker and struggles turning defenders off the line. Must improve the strength of his base. Over-extends into blocks, which adversely affects his ability to finish.
The Verdict: Saffold is a terrific blind-side prospect who really stands out in pass protection. Lacks the great growth potential yet has enough skill to eventually develop into a starter.
