Running back Jordan Howard will not suit up for the Eagles on Sunday against the New England Patriots. He was listed as questionable after being limited all week in practice with a shoulder injury.
Rookie Miles Sanders will start at running back. He has opened the game at running back already four times this season. The Eagles also have Boston Scott and Jay Ajayi, who is active after signing with the team on Friday. Ajayi hasn't played since tearing his ACL on October 7, 2018 against the Vikings at Lincoln Financial Field.
In addition to Howard, linebacker Nigel Bradham (ankle) and wide receiver Alshon Jeffery (ankle) are out due to injury.
This is the fourth straight game that Bradham will miss. Rookie T.J. Edwards has started the last two games at middle linebacker in the base package. Nathan Gerry and Kamu Grugier-Hill are the nickel linebackers as well as the starting outside 'backers in the base.
Jeffery sustained his injury in the win two weeks ago over the Bears. J.J. Arcega-Whiteside is the primary backup at Jeffery's position and is in line to potentially start for the first time in his career on Sunday. The Eagles signed Jordan Matthews at the beginning of the week. Matthews is active, so the Eagles could start Nelson Agholor and Mack Hollins on the outside and place Matthews in the slot.
Here are the other four inactive players for Sunday's showdown with the Patriots.
DE Daeshon Hall: With seven defensive ends on the active roster, the Eagles decide to sit Hall which means cornerback Sidney Jones is active. The Eagles will want the extra defensive backs to provide options in the subpackages. Rookie safety Marcus Epps, who was claimed off waivers from Minnesota during the bye week, is also active. The Eagles still have plenty of firepower at defensive end with Brandon Graham, Derek Barnett, Vinny Curry, Josh Sweat, and Genard Avery active.
G Nate Herbig: Jason Peters is back in the starting lineup at left tackle after missing three games with a knee injury. Andre Dillard, Matt Pryor, and Halapoulivaati Vaitai are the backup offensive linemen. Herbig has not been active for a game this season.
DE Shareef Miller: The rookie made his NFL debut in the win over Buffalo in Week 8. He's been active in two games, but only played in the Bills contest. Again, the Eagles have extensive depth at defensive end and are getting healthier at defensive tackle with Tim Jernigan's return to the lineup in the Bears game.
QB Nate Sudfeld: The Eagles decide to suit up two quarterbacks (Carson Wentz and Josh McCown) as they are healthier going into this game.
