On Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders, we got to see tight end Dallas Goedert take over the mantle as the "TE1" in the Eagles' offense for the first time in his career. While the fourth-year player didn't reach the end zone out in the desert, I would say he performed well with everything the Eagles asked him to do.

Goedert played 93 percent of the snaps in Sunday's loss to the Raiders, one of the highest numbers of his career. He played in 100 percent of the snaps in 2020 against Cleveland and Seattle with Zach Ertz out of the lineup. Goedert made an impact as both a receiver and as a blocker.

Goedert's impact as a receiver is apparent anytime he's on the field, as he is one of the most explosive options at the position in the entire NFL. The former second-round pick has developed into a really strong route runner (working with Ertz every day over your entire career will have that effect on you), is strong at the catch point (look how effortless his hands are as he casually plucks the ball from the air in just those three catches above), and is one of the best "yards after catch" players at the position in the league.

That all said, being a "combo" tight end isn't just about being a pass catcher because you have to do your job as a blocker as well.

Whether he's on the "playside" at the point of attack or cutting off the "backside" of runs, Goedert is an excellent blocker. His versatility in that area of his game stands out, as he's able to pass protect, lead block in space, and take on defensive ends and linebackers on a down-to-down basis.
