For the second straight week, Vince Young started at quarterback for the Eagles. Statistically, the 6-5 signal-caller improved upon his 258-yard, three-interception performance against the New York Giants from a week ago. Against the New England Patriots Sunday, Young threw for 400 yards, one interception and one touchdown. Unfortunately, Young could not deliver the only thing Eagles fans wanted cared about, a win.
The Eagles attempted 48 passes as opposed to only 11 designed run plays Sunday during their 38-20 loss Sunday. Young embraced the added pressure of having the ball in his hands for much of the game, but was disappointed about his execution of the plays that were called.
"I thought I played ok. I left a lot of throws on the field," he said in his post-game press conference. "When a play is called, it's my job to lead the guys and make the play work. We had some ups and downs throughout the game. We had some good drives, we had some drops; we had a lot of things. The guys and the coaches are upset about tonight, but we have to stay positive and just move forward."
After the game, Young spoke to the media about the difficulty of moving on from such a crippling loss with a short week ahead before the Eagles travel to Seattle for a Thursday night game against the Seahawks.
"We're professionals. We definitely wanted this game, and losing left a bad taste in our mouths," he said. "We know that we have a quick turnaround this week. We have to put this game in the past, go back to work tomorrow, and get ready to face another good opponent Thursday.
"We have to stay strong and keep playing hard for all four quarters. I can honestly say that we were fighting hard, even at the end of the game, today."
Asked if Young would start Thursday if Michael Vick, who has missed the last two games with broken ribs, cannot play once again, head coach Andy Reid was non-committal, saying that he would have to evaluate game film before making a decision.
