The Eagles have suffered a slew of minor injuries over the past few days, but the good news is that they are just that - minor. Only the fractured collarbone suffered by Riley Cooper, who Andy Reid said is feeling better post-surgery, truly threatens to leak into the regular season. Still, when Reid updated the injury situation following Friday morning's walkthrough, there were 14 names to follow.
Safety Oshiomogho Atogwe suffered a groin strain Thursday and likely will not practice this afternoon. Linebacker Jamar Chaney incurred a hamstring strain and will not practice Friday; ditto for wide receiver Jamel Hamler. Sixth-round rookie offensive lineman Brandon Washington suffered a concussion and will not practice for a few days. Defensive lineman Monte Taylor suffered a concussion of his own a few days ago, and while he's feeling better, he too won't practice Friday.
Starters Jason Babin (calf), Brent Celek (MCL sprain), Trent Cole (AC joint) and Todd Herremans (shoulder inflammation) are all "making progress" and have been taking part in the walkthroughs. Any or all of the four could return to practice soon, as could defensive tackle Cullen Jenkins, who is working his way back from a slight hamstring injury.
Left guard Evan Mathis missed both of Thursday's practices with an illness that Reid disclosed is an inner ear infection. Reid said Mathis is doing better, but won't be back on the practice field just yet.
Finally, the two players who left Friday afternoon's practice with dehydration, LeSean McCoy and Nate Allen (who also had a hamstring spasm) are doing well. Allen's status is up in the air for this afternoon, by McCoy will definitely be on the practice field for what Reid indicated will be another tough practice that will include more live hitting.
Reid also provided his thoughts on the Eagles' trade with the Indianapolis Colts that sent linebacker Moise Fokou and Greg Lloyd to the AFC South in exchange for cornerback Kevin Thomas and a conditional seventh-round draft pick in 2013.
"I thought those two linebackers are going to be given an opportunity to play," Reid said. "That's a plus for their careers. And in return, I think we get a pretty good corner, somebody that's played and has experience. He played about 40 percent of the snaps with the Colts, so that gives us another player at a very important position.
"(Taylor) has been a cover two corner, so he's a big physical kid at the point, moreso on the receiver than his tackling and all that stuff. He's a big, long physical player, so we think he can do some of the things that we're goig to ask him to do and fit in with the bump and run and all that stuff that we're asking our corners to do."
Lastly, the Eagles worked out linebacker Adrian Moten after practice. Moten went undrafted out of Maryland in 2011 but played a combined 12 games last season split between the Seattle Seahawks and Indianapolis Colts.
