ESPN's Adam Schefter was the first to report late Thursday morning that the sale of the Cleveland Browns to businessman Jimmy Haslem was complete.
NFL Network reported shortly thereafter that strategic advisor to the owner Joe Banner will be a part of the new Browns' executive team. The sale of the Browns, which was reported for more than a billion dollars, has to be approved by the league's owners at the NFL meetings in October.
Banner joined the Eagles in 1994 when the team was purchased by Jeffrey Lurie. A mastermind of the salary cap, Banner was named team president in 2001 and was a key player in the franchise's ability to develop and build the NovaCare Complex and Lincoln Financial Field. Banner transitioned to his new role in June.
