D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported on Monday that the Eagles are "expected to land" free agent defensive end Ray Edwards of the Minnesota Vikings.
Ledbetter doesn't cite any sources except claiming that it was one of five things he learned at the owners meeting in Atlanta last Thursday. A beat writer for the Falcons, Ledbetter noted that the Falcons were apparently one of the teams that was interested in the defensive end's services, but instead will turn their attention to retaining their own free agents.
The 6-5, 268-pound Edwards is just 26 years old. Over the past two seasons, Edwards has tallied 16.5 sacks - 8.5 in 2009, 8.0 in 2010. A fourth-round pick in 2006 out of Purdue, Edwards has started 58 of the 72 regular season games that he's played in and has 29.5 career sacks.
