The Eagles placed defensive end Genard Avery and linebacker Nathan Gerry on the Injured Reserve list on Friday afternoon. They will have to miss at least three weeks before they are eligible to return to the active roster.
Avery suffered an elbow injury, but it is uncertain when it happened. He was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice. Avery has six tackles and 1.5 sacks this season. He had an increased role when Vinny Curry was sidelined due to a hamstring injury. He played just seven snaps on defense in the past two games.
Gerry is sidelined by an ankle injury. He played well in the win over the Giants and has been on the field for 97 percent of the snaps on defense this season. T.J. Edwards is poised to return from Injured Reserve to mitigate the loss.
The Eagles currently have five players in the 21-day practice window who are eligible to come back from Injured Reserve – Edwards, safety Rudy Ford, tight end Dallas Goedert, tackle Jason Peters, and wide receiver Jalen Reagor. With Avery and Gerry on Injured Reserve, there are currently four open spots on the active roster.
