Head Coach Doug Pederson said that defensive end Vinny Curry and cornerback Craig James each suffered a "significant" injury in Sunday's loss to Washington.
On Tuesday, the Eagles placed both players on Injured Reserve. Remember that both players are eligible to return to the active roster after three games if they are healthy.
The Eagles filled one of the open spots on the active roster by signing guard Sua Opeta from the practice squad. Opeta was called up from the practice squad for Sunday's game, but did not play. Opeta went through the same thing in his rookie season. He was on the practice squad to open the 2019 season, but the Weber State product was eventually promoted to the active roster in December. He did not play in a game.
From a roster standpoint:
· At defensive end, Brandon Graham is in the concussion protocol, so Derek Barnett's status (he missed the opener with a hamstring injury) will be something to monitor with Curry out.
· Along the offensive line, rookie tackle Jack Driscoll did not finish the game. Also, Lane Johnson is trying to work his way back with an ankle injury that sidelined him for the opener. Those will be two players to keep an eye on for this Sunday's game against Los Angeles.
· James is a captain on special teams and the punt coverage was outstanding on Sunday.
To replace Opeta on the practice squad, the Eagles signed tight end Jordan Franks. The 24-year-old Franks played in six games for the Bengals in 2018, registering two catches for 37 yards. The 6-4, 240-pound Franks had 43 catches for 509 yards and two touchdowns at Central Florida.
