Entering the month of November, the Eagles weren't in first place in the NFC East. The Washington Commanders were the talk of the NFL after winning on a last-gasp Hail Mary to beat the Chicago Bears.
After a perfect November (and the start of December), the Eagles have seized firm control of the division, leading the Commanders by three games in the loss column. Philadelphia (10-2) currently holds the No. 2 seed in the conference, sitting one game back of the NFC North-leading Detroit Lions (11-1), who have a big divisional matchup on Thursday against the Green Bay Packers.
One of the primary catalysts of the Eagles' scorching-hot November was running back Saquon Barkley, who the NFL named on Thursday as the NFC Offensive Player of the Month.
It is Barkley's first career Player of the Month honor and the first Offensive Player of the Month award captured by an Eagle since A.J. Brown last October.
Here's a look back at Barkley's November to remember, highlighted by a franchise single-game rushing record with a 255-yard output in the win at the Los Angeles Rams.
Opponent | Rushing Yards | Total Yards | Total TDs |
---|---|---|---|
Week 9 vs. Jaguars (W) | 159 | 199 | 2 |
Week 10 at Cowboys (W) | 66 | 78 | 0 |
Week 11 vs. Commanders (W) | 146 | 198 | 2 |
Week 12 at Rams (W) | 255 | 302 | 2 |
Week 13 at Ravens (W) | 107 | 117 | 1 |
Total | 733 | 894 | 7 |
And Barkley is on the cusp of more edits to the history books.
With 109 rushing yards, he will surpass LeSean McCoy's single-season franchise record of 1,607 set in 2013.
"You want to come in here and leave a legacy. I'm aware of it, but that's not the driving factor of it," said Barkley, who researched some of the Eagles' greats, including McCoy, Brian Westbrook, and Wilbert Montgomery after signing in free agency.
"I am aware of the things I can accomplish, but the way I accomplish that is by sticking to the script."
Here is a look at some of the other ridiculous stats that Barkley has posted in 2024:
• Barkley leads the NFL with 8 games with 100+ rushing yards in 2024. That is tied for the most such games in a season in Eagles history (Montgomery, 1981).
• Barkley joined Hall of Famer Jim Brown (1963) as the only players in NFL history with 1,400+ rush yards, 6+ yds/carry, and 10+ rush TDs over their team's first 12 games of a season.
• Barkley's 147.2 scrimmage yards per game rank second among veterans in first season with a team all time.
• Barkley leads the NFL with 982 rushing yards and 1,125 scrimmage yards in the second half/overtime in 2024, both most by any player in the first 12 games of a season since at least 1991.
