Darryl Tapp met the Philadelphia media on Thursday afternoon following a physical and executing the act of signing a three-year contract through 2012, and then told reporters that head coach Andy Reid said he would be a left defensive end with the Eagles.
"Hopefully I can work my way up and become a starter," said Tapp, who will wear jersey number 91. "I'm excited about it. I'm a Philadelphia Eagle."
Tapp said he though 2009 was his best season, despite registering only 2 1/2 sacks. He had 18 quarterback hits and was around the ball a lot. One of the problems he may have had was that teams just didn't have to throw the ball that much against Seattle, a team that went 5-11.
"And if they threw, it was a three-step drop or the quarterback just threw the ball away," said Tapp. "They knew they had another play coming."
Tapp chose number 91 because it represents a "new start" and he will get that here. The Eagles have Juqua Parker, Victor Abiamiri and Darren Howard at the position as well. Someone has to emerge as a starter.
