The Unveiling Of A New Michael Vick?

Lost in the shuffle of the Eagles' season-ending four-game win streak may have been the transformation of Michael Vick as a player.

Sure, Vick's brilliant 2010 campaign would have you think different, but there's reason to believe that he's more of a pocket passer than ever before.

In the last three games, Vick finished each contest with a passer rating of 100-or-more. It's the first time in his career that he's accomplished that in three straight games as a starting quarterback. Combine that with the fact that in the last four games, Vick rushed for a total of 54 yards. Back in the Week 5 game in Buffalo, Vick rushed for 53 yards on one single play. It's by far his lowest four-game rushing output as a starting quarterback.

Vick knows that in order to get the Eagles where they want to be in 2012 he must play at a high level consistently for all 16 contests.

"I think it would be unbelievable and that has to be the goal. I have to be available for 16 games for this team," Vick said. "I have to hold myself accountable and got to get away from doing too much and understand that waking up Monday morning sore doesn't mean that you didn't go out there and give it your all. I think it means you played smart."

It's a mindset that Vick tried to play with in these final four games that served him well. Now, the 31-year-old will get to build upon that in his first full offseason as the team's starting quarterback. Vick promised that next season will be different and isn't afraid to step up to the challenge.

"We know what we have here. It's only going to get better," Vick said. "We're going to work as hard as we can because we owe the city a lot. We owe this organization a lot as players. I take on that responsibility and every guy in this locker room does as well."

As a fan of the game, Vick admitted to watching the Giants beat the Cowboys for the NFC East title Sunday night. He'll continue to watch throughout the course of the postseason. Even though the Eagles won their last four games and dominated the NFC East with a 5-1 record this season, the team can only sit back and wonder what might have been if a game or two earlier this year went their way.

"It is what it is. I think it's going to motivate us to work harder going into the offseason," Vick said. "We're all very excited about that."
