The Eagles feel they are in terrific shape here headed by, of course, Jalen Hurts. He is one of the premier players in the entire league, has a potent set of skill position players around him, a great offensive line in front of him and an offensive system led by coordinator Kellen Moore that has a history of being extremely positive for the quarterback position. Things are set up nicely for Hurts to continue to be one of the league's shining stars and lead the attack in a variety of ways.
Adding Kenny Pickett in the spring brings onboard another quarterback who can make all the throws, has mobility, command of the huddle and has won in the NFL. Pickett understands his role and will be ready to contribute to the winning culture with anything the coaching staff needs him to do.
Second-year man Tanner McKee enjoyed a strong rookie preseason and looks to build on that. He is No. 3 on the depth chart and is in his development phase, continuing to learn NFL defenses and work on his technique, timing and the nuances of the position.
Will Grier is here as the fourth quarterback, a veteran hand who will look to maximize the reps he receives in the summer.
New to the Nest: Pickett, a former first-round draft pick in Pittsburgh, started 24 games with the Steelers with 13 touchdowns, 13 interceptions and a 78.8 passer rating. He's here with a fresh start, a new offense, and the most talent around him in his NFL career.
Grier signed in free agency and has been in the NFL since the Panthers selected him in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
Bird Talk: "Certainly we're really excited about the guys that we have in place here. A lot of guys who can do a lot of different roles and a lot of variety. That excites us as far as just the way we can present things for the defense, challenge people pre-snap with all the different alignments and personnel groups that we can play with. That will be a continuing building process. I think the biggest thing is having a clear identity of who we want to be, and ultimately week in and week out understanding their role certainly through a game." – Offensive Coordinator Kellen Moore on his early impressions of the Eagles offense
Notable Stat: Hurts has a 91.1 passer rating and has produced 108 total touchdowns in his 62 NFL regular season games, with 51 starts.
Under the Microscope: Clearly, the offense hinges on Hurts and the quarterback position and so much of that depends on Moore and the offensive system and how he helps bring out the best in Hurts. Moore has had great success in both Dallas and Los Angeles and is one of the most highly regarded NFL offensive coordinators in the league. The early results are encouraging as the Eagles have a talent-laden offensive roster and Moore's creativity to have a robust and varied attack.
