During an appearance on ESPN Radio's The Herd with Colin Cowherd, former Eagles head coach Dick Vermeil offered his thoughts on current head coach Chip Kelly's first year in the NFL.
Needless to say, Vermeil was dazzled by Kelly's performance.
"I'm extremely impressed with him as a football coach, let alone his scheme," Vermeil said. "His leadership abilities, his process, he's not afraid to be different, do it different than the so-called fraternity in the NFL."
Like Vermeil, Kelly made the jump from the college to the NFL ranks. The big difference is that Vermeil had experience in the NFL prior to coming to Philadelphia in 1976. Kelly did not.
"I think he's done as a good a job or a better job than anybody I've ever seen coming in his first year," Vermeil said.
Hall of Fame sportswriter Ray Didinger recently took a look at the past Eagles head coaches and how they fared in their first seasons and compared them to Kelly's rookie year.
