Even though the Eagles know their season is on the line this Sunday in Washington, don't expect to see the team play tight when they take on the NFC East-leading Redskins.
"I think being loose is probably the best way to be right now," quarterback Michael Vick said. "I think when everyone is tense and uptight, it creates more pressure and we already have enough pressure on ourselves. We just need to go out and focus on playing good, mistake-free football, and trying to come out with a win."
Vick has completed 62.1 percent of his passes for 1,336 yards with eight touchdowns against seven interceptions. Last year at Washington, Vick became the first player in NFL history to post 300 yards passing (333), 50 yards rushing (80), four passing touchdowns and two more rushing in the same game.
One of the reasons that head coach Andy Reid has been successful throughout the course of his 12-plus seasons in Philadelphia is that he knows how to push his players' buttons. The knee-jerk reaction after the team's 1-4 start would be to rip into the squad. However, Reid has emphasized the positive things that he's seen on the field.
"He was upbeat and encouraging. Nothing has changed about him," Vick said. "I think his energy is directly carrying over to us, and we've had a great week of practice so far. We're ready to go."
Vick emphasized that the team has put in the work necessary to come out with a win on Sunday. He is hoping that the team's perseverance will pay off.
"I think we've all handled this situation the best that we could, and I think we've handled it well," Vick said. "We're just focusing on the next best thing, and that's winning. We understand that can change everything around. I think everybody has handled this whole situation with class and as professionals like we all are. We're waiting to pull through."
