As Eagles nation awaits the arrival of Chip Kelly, the team's new head coach, the conversation among fans has quickly turned to the quarterback position. Will it be Nick Foles under center in 2013? Will it be Michael Vick? Or could it be someone not yet on the roster?
The answer is, of course, an unknown. Vick and Foles are talented quarterbacks, and both bring unique skills to the table. Kelly has traditionally used quarterbacks who can throw as well as they can run and on the surface, and that makes Vick an appealing choice. But it's a quote from Kelly about Foles that could provide insight into who will lead the Eagles' offense next season.
"I'll tell you what; I'm glad Nick Foles is graduating," Kelly said after facing Foles during his senior season at Arizona in 2011. "I catch myself watching him in awe sometimes ... Nick is a hell of a football player. That kid's a warrior. He's as good as anyone in the country."
While Arizona lost that game 56-31, Foles went 34-of-57 for 398 yards and three touchdowns. The Eagles drafted Foles in the third round last season, and in seven games he completed 161 of his 265 passes for 1,699 yards, six touchdowns and five interceptions. By comparison, Vick ended the 2012 campaign completing 204 of 351 passes for 2,362 yards, 12 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in 10 games. He also ran 62 times for 332 yards and a score.
Kelly has yet to arrive in Philadelphia, but the quarterback situation will certainly be one worth watching as the Eagles' new head coach begins his tenure.
