As Sunday fast approaches, there is something to consider in terms of the pregame atmosphere at Lincoln Financial Field.
At approximately 8:22 PM, Michael Vick will be introduced to the Eagles faithful as the starting quarterback for the first time. Considering the season that Vick has had, especially Monday night's game in Washington, one can only imagine what the reception will be.
Vick said Friday that he hasn't thought too much about his introduction before today, but it's something that he's excited to experience in Philadelphia.
"I haven't thought about it yet due to the fact that we've been trying to get ready for the game this weekend and we're trying to be great with preparation, but now that the time has come and it's almost game time, I think it's going to be exciting," Vick said Friday. "It's going to be a great atmosphere and I think that's going to set the tone.
"It's going to be very gratifying to get the reaction, and I can't wait."
In Lincoln Financial Field's eight year history, there might not be a more anticipated Eagle introduction than Vick's come Sunday night. Of course, welcoming back former Eagle greats Donovan McNabb and Brian Dawkins were special moments, but both were on the opposing team. Even receiver DeSean Jackson is excited to be a part of it.
"It's going to go nuts," Jackson said. "I think everyone is going to be cheering. We're just all happy for him. He's done a great job so far in getting back to where he needs to be. We're just happy for him."
Vick has put together one of the great comeback stories this season in recent NFL history. After being out of the game for two years, Vick returned as nothing more than a gadget player for the Eagles in 2009. But patience, hard work and diligent preparation have transformed the 30-year-old quarterback into one of the very best in the league.
If you are lucky enough to be in the building Sunday night, enjoy the moment and show your appreciation for what Vick has accomplished this season both on and off the field. If you're not, check out the Kickoff Show on PhiladelphiaEagles.com beginning at 7:45 PM (EST).
