Backup quarterback A.J. Feeley discussed the rash of injuries that have occurred at Eagles camp, including the left knee sprain that Kevin Kolb suffered, after this morning's practice.
"It's kind of been a freaky thing, the guys going down," Feeley said. "But that's football; it's kind of the nature of the beast.
"That's why guys are taking reps in case they have to step up. But I'm sure Kevin (Kolb)'s fine. He'll be alright."
Even so, Feeley knows missing any time is the last thing Kolb wanted.
"As a quarterback and a competitor you never want to be away from practice or be away from a game," Feeley said. "(Kolb) wants those reps and he wants to get in there and play.
"He's having a good camp. All our numbers this year in camp have been extremely high."
That being said, it's likely that Feeley will be getting a lot of playing time this Thursday night when the Eagles open their preseason against the New England Patriots.
"Be consistent and score touchdowns," he said when asked what his goals are for the opener. "Some of these younger guys are trying to make the squad, so I need to give them a chance to see what they can do."
Feeley also said he's been given a very talented group of players to work with in training camp so far.
"(Jeremy) Maclin's come in here as of late and done a great job," Feeley said. "(Brandon) Gibson, you'd even put (LeSean) McCoy in that mix because he's been catching the ball out of the backfield a bunch.
"All of them are stepping up. Danny (Amendola) is a quick guy in the slot and he can make things happen."
It's nice for the young players to have someone of Feeley's experience at the quarterback position.
"I get a chance to work with all of those guys because they're young and that's kind of the group I go with," Feeley said. "I'm a fortunate quarterback this year with the group I have and am playing with. They're speed guys and they can make plays."
We'll see on Thursday night just how productive they can be.
