It wasn't the ideal bye week for Zach Ertz.
While most of his teammates were on vacation or spending time with family, Ertz was stuck at the NovaCare Complex receiving treatment for a tight hamstring. As a result, he was unable to fly out and watch his wife, Julie, a member of the U.S. Women's Soccer team, take on Canada Thursday and Sunday.
To make up for it, Ertz celebrated his 27th birthday on Friday by going out with teammate Jordan Hicks and his wife, Ivana.
"I wanted to see my wife play soccer. I don't get to do that very often," Ertz admitted. "The bye week came at a perfect time for me to go up to Canada and see her play but fortunately she understood."
Last week, Ertz's name made a surprise appearance on the inactive list against the Broncos. On the bright side, however, Ertz participated in team practice Monday without any limitations. He could potentially return in time for the first of two matchups against the division-rival Cowboys. Last time Ertz played Dallas, he racked up 139 yards and two touchdowns in the Eagles' season-ending New Year's Day victory.
"Any time you play an NFC East division opponent it's an exciting game. The fans are so fired up no matter where the game is. It's the best division in football in my opinion and it's fun to play in," he said.
