More than anybody, Winston Justice understands that one game does not define a season, let alone a career. Following the positive reviews he earned in just his second NFL start Sunday in Carolina, he's keeping things in perspective.
"After the game the only thing I was thinking about was the next game," Justice said. "Right now I'm focused on New Orleans and having a good game against them."
Three days after the win at Carolina and a day after Pro Bowl lineman Shawn Andrews was placed on injured reserve, Justice finds himself as the first-team right tackle on the depth chart.
But Justice knows there's no such thing as job security in the NFL.
"This is the NFL. They can always bring someone in," Justice said. "The only thing you need to do is go out every day and practice as hard as you can, play as hard as you can and take it day by day."
Justice's play against the Panthers earned rave reviews from Brian Westbrook.
"He went out there and played like we knew he could," Westbrook said on Wednesday. "I think that he added a lot of confidence to his game. That happened through mini-camp as well as training camp, and you could tell out there on the field. He's aggressive.
"I told him today, 'You did a good job in the game, continue to get better.' I think as he plays more and more he'll do nothing but get better."
Added center Jamaal Jackson: "I think he's become a very fine offensive lineman, especially consistent."
Justice's forgettable performance in 2007 against the Giants is in the past. His relationship with God is at the forefront and he is looking to make the most of his opportunity.
"The Bible says that you need to listen to criticism, especially if it's from someone wise like (offensive line coach) Juan (Castillo). I listen to it. I just need to build upon it and get better," Justice said. "With coaches like Juan and (head coach Andy) Reid, you can't help but to get better because you're going to be there before practice, you're going to be there after practice, you're going to be there a lot."
Justice's work is beginning to pay off. But Sunday afternoon - his third career start - brings with it a new challenge. The Saints rotate their ends and will look to get in the backfield. Justice must be on his game.
