WR Demaryius Thomas, Georgia Tech | |||||
Pos. Rank: 2 | Grade: 1st Round | Height: 6-3 1/2 | Weight: 224 | 40: 4.45 | Year: 4-Jr. |
The Good: Tall, game-controlling pass catcher with a lot of upside. Fluid releasing off the line, comes back to the ball out of breaks and effectively and extends his hands to make the reception away from his frame. Tough to bring down running after the reception, and breaks tackles to pick up positive yardage. Consistently finds the open space on the field to make himself an available target, gets vertical, and grabs the ball away from defenders. Displays a sense of timing and makes the difficult catch in a crowd. Terrific blocker downfield and helps the running game with his ability to remove defensive backs from the action.
The Bad: Has more built-up speed rather than a sudden burst. Average route runner and really does not show sharpness into breaks. Broke his foot in the middle of February and surgery was required to repair the injury.
The Verdict: Thomas has been at terrific receiver at Georgia Tech the past three years and produced in their run oriented offense. He plays faster than his 40 time and has all the skills necessary to be a number one wide out for an NFL franchise.
