Quarterback Matt Barkley accounted for a pair of touchdowns and kicker Cody Parkey nailed three field goals - two from beyond 50 yards - as the Eagles ended the preseason with a 2-2 record following an impressive 37-7 win over the New York Jets.
Barkley was 21 of 33 for 253 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Barkley connected with wide receiver Arrelious Benn for a 43-yard touchdown down the right sideline in the first quarter and never looked back. Barkley capped off his night with a 7-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter which extended the Eagles' lead to 23-7. Barkley moved the ball with ease all game long as seven of his nine drives entered Jets' territory, including each of the last five.
All eyes are on the kicking battle as Parkey, a rookie free agent acquired last week in a trade with Indianapolis, and incumbent Alex Henery are vying for the job. With 1:51 left in the first half, Parkey lined up for a 54-yard attempt and drilled it through the uprights. After ending the first half with a 25-yard field goal, Parkey boomed a 53-yard kick in the third quarter.
Benn had the long touchdown, but wide receiver Jeff Maehl led the receivers with 84 yards on four catches. Tight end Trey Burton caught a 21-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter from G.J. Kinne. Burton finished with a game-high six catches for 45 yards.
Running back Henry Josey led the ground game and was the last man at his position by the end of the night. Josey had 121 yards rushing on 22 carries. Matthew Tucker started as Chris Polk did not dress, but Tucker left the game with a shoulder injury. Kenjon Barner also exited the game with an ankle injury. With LeSean McCoy and Darren Sproles resting, Damaris Johnson was called into action and scored on a 46-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
Former Eagles quarterback Michael Vick made a cameo one-snap appearance before walking off to the applause from the fans in attendance. Matt Simms came in and was largely kept in check by the Eagles' defense completing 7 of 17 pass attempts for 121 yards. Tajh Boyd came in the third quarter and tossed a 42-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Clyde Gates for the Jets' points.
Linebackers Bryan Braman and Travis Long each recorded a sack and safety Earl Wolff forced a fumble late in the first half that was recovered by defensive end Brandon Bair.
As is custom for the final preseason game, it was a night off for the Eagles' starters. Nose tackle Bennie Logan was the only player listed on the first-team depth chart - outside of specialists - to suit up.
