January 15
4:15 PM: Eagles Head Coach Nick Sirianni knows the Los Angeles Rams are a quality football team, one that has won 11 of 13 games after a 1-4 start to the season (excluding the regular-season finale when the Rams rested their starters).
The Rams have his full attention. And his full respect.
"They're playing really good football," Sirianni said on Wednesday at the NovaCare Complex. "That was pretty obvious when we went in to play them last time, too. They had won four out of five when we played them and pretty much have been undefeated since then. So, they're playing really good football both offensively, defensively, special teams-wise. You expect that, because they got good players, and I again can't say enough about this coaching staff. I really think that they have a really good coaching staff, led by Sean McVay.
"Anytime you play a team as long ago as we've played them, there are going to be changes, and there definitely is. They do a couple of different things on defense making it hard on you, making it challenging on you to predict what's coming, but Chris Shula (defensive coordinator for the Rams) has done a really good job coaching the defense. And again, they've got really good players, especially on that defensive line. It's a good front that's playing really good football right now." – Dave Spadaro
2:50 PM: Looking back at the November 24 game at Los Angeles ... the Eagles were great on offense. Really great. As in, the best they've been all season.
Philadelphia had 10 offensive possessions, scoring on 8 of them and not scoring only when the team had the ball in the final 26 seconds of the first half and when it kneeled on the ball in the last 1 minute, 7 seconds of the 37-20 victory. Otherwise, the Eagles rolled up a season-best 481 total net yards of offense, converted 9 of 15 third downs, compiled 314 rushing yards (255 by running back Saquon Barkley), and still ... left ... points ... on ... the ... field. The Eagles were only 2 of 5 in the red zone, and understood after winning their seventh straight game that they could be better.
"We're not satisfied," quarterback Jalen Hurts said after that game. "I think we're playing complementary ball in all the things we're able to do. To be able to go out there and do what we were able to do without our guy, (wide receiver) DeVonta Smith (injured, did not play) ... everybody is just taking advantage of the opportunity. Still, we need to finish in the red zone, make some plays. If we score touchdowns instead of field goals early in the game in the red zone, it changes the dynamic of the game." – Dave Spadaro
1:30 PM: Ball security and taking the football away are parts of the game that the Eagles stress daily in the course of a season. Clearly, that message has resonated: Since Week 8 of the 2024 season, the Eagles own a +21 turnover margin (including Sunday's win over Green Bay). That is a remarkable number for a team that had a minus-6 in the turnover department after four games. From Weeks 8 through 18 of the regular season, the Eagles led the league in turnover margin (+17) and in points scored after takeaways (97). Philadelphia scored 104 points off of takeaways during the entire regular season, ranking third in the NFL behind Buffalo (128) and Green Bay (117). Those four takeaways against Green Bay on Sunday were the most for the Eagles in a playoff game since the win over Chicago on January 19, 2002 (also 4). – Dave Spadaro
