Everything was in place for the Eagles to make a statement to the rest of the NFL.
The Eagles were coming off a bye. The Cowboys were playing on a short week.
The game was being nationally televised, which means the fans would be even more raucous than usual.
Golden Tate was making his Eagles debut.
Despite all of that, the Eagles came up short Sunday against the Cowboys, 27-20.
Fans won't take many positives away from this loss, but there were some fantastic performances Sunday night. Here are your nominees for the Toyota Player of the Week:
TE Zach Ertz
There isn't anything special about being 4-5, but the season Zach Ertz is having will go down as one of the best seasons a tight end has ever had. Not just in the history of the Eagles, but in the history of the league.
Ertz caught 14 passes Sunday night – yes, 14 passes – for 145 yards and two touchdowns.
He now has 75 receptions in 2018 and with 789 yards he is well on his way to reaching the 1,000-yard plateau for the first time in his career.
DE Michael Bennett
The defense as a unit did not have a great outing against the Cowboys, but Michael Bennett did his part by racking up a pair of sacks, including a thunderous one on Dak Prescott to begin the second half.
WR Nelson Agholor
The former USC Trojan suffered a stinger Sunday night, but he didn't let that stop him from catching seven passes for 83 yards.
His biggest play came on a 51-yard bomb from Carson Wentz that set up a touchdown a couple of plays later.
