Free safety Brian Dawkins along with volunteers from The Home Depot, organizers from the nonprofit KaBOOM! and members of the local community joined forces to build an entire playground for the Northeast Family YMCA of Philadelphia and Vicinity on Tuesday. The new playground will revitalize the Longmead Farms neighborhood and create a great place to play within walking distance of the many deserving boys and girls in the community.
The playground build is part of The Home Depot NFL Neighborhood MVP program that recognizes and celebrates NFL players for their commitment to giving back to their local communities. Dawkins was one of 17 players selected league-wide for his support of the Burn Prevention Foundation, dedicated to the ongoing care of burn survivors, facilitating the training of emergency service personnel and delivering burn prevention education to those at greatest risk to injury. Dawkins also supports YMCA programs, the United Way and the Maternity Care Coalition, among other local charities. The Home Depot developed the NFL Neighborhood MVP program as part of its ongoing commitment to give back to the communities its associates live and work in.
